Align - Terrain Biennial
"Align" collaborative outdoor site specific installation with Kristine Aono for the Terrain Biennial, curated by Anne Harris.
Inspired by this Cesar Chavez quote:
If you really want to make a friend,
go to someone's house and eat with him...
the people who give you their food give you their heart.
Situated in two front yards across the street from one another, the installation is a celebration of the friendship of these neighbors who share years of conversation, support, and love for one another, as well as meals of aglio e olio. As the family's parkway trees “talk to each other,” their yards connect in visual and metaphorical ways. The abstract ‘pasta’ winds its way from stylized racks of drying pasta in the Harris/D’Amato’s yard to platters in the Louthen’s. Tendrils of pasta lines wander up the trees that lead from one family’s home to the other. The theme continued during the reception and artists' talk, culminating in a shared meal with lively conversation, as the generous hosts, Anne Harris, Paul D'Amato, and Jim and Cathy Louthen provided a dinner of Paul's aglio e olio.
